Ame Comi Catwoman II by Dessi-Desu Ame Comi Catwoman II by Dessi-Desu
Character: Catwoman (Ame Comi)
Series: Batman
Photo taken by Ljinto at Katsucon 2011
Costume and make up: Made and done by me

Haha, this costume is soooooooooooo out of character for me, but I had a lot of fun wearing it. My friend has been wanting to do a Batman cosplay for quite a while. Normally, I would have picked Ivy for myself (I love red hair :3), but my friend was going to cosplay her originally, but ended up cosplaying Zatanna in the end.

I picked the Ame Comi costume because I found it to be cute and playful, and I'm not very good at playing the tough girl role. Plus, she has green eyes and long limbs like me in the figurine : ]

I made the costume out of a metallic black spandex, which is relatively easy to sew. I recommend it to any cosplayers that want a shiny look, but are afraid to take on the task of sewing vinyl. I love metallic spandex and even used it on my top for my Velvet cosplay.

There are buckles and zippers galore on this costume. My least favorite part by far was taking on the task of the boot slip covers. Installing zippers to go -AROUND- my legs was extremely annoying, but I got it done ^^

I also played around a little bit with resin casting on this costume. I casted the cat ears for the hat. I meant to cast the claws, but I ran out of time, so I just made some quick ones out of sculpy.

I have a few things I want to fix on this costume, before wearing it again, but for the most part I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

I'm so jealous of your boots! I took the cowards way out on my Ame Comi Catwoman costume and just did a silver strip that wrapped around the boot! You look fabulous! *approve!*

Thanks! All the pieces for this costume were made by me. I just used a glove sewing pattern that I altered a bit and sculpted some claws to put inside the finger holes that I left on the fingertips of the gloves.

Btw, did use 4-way stretch or 2-way stretch spandex?

I'm SUPER late. Sorry about that! I used 4-way stretch. Some people use 2-way, but I've heard a lot of complaints about it being more difficult to work with.

This is amazing! I've been thinking of making this costume and I love yours! Any tips for conquering those crazy zippers on the boots?

Thank you so much! Honestly, the boots were kind of trial and error. Just make sure that when you cut the basic pattern for bootslip covers that you make them larger than what you want. Installing the zipper will make them tighter. Good luck!

Did you slip them over heels or attach them to a bare sole? I'm starting to really lean towards this costume and so I'm trying to discern exactly how difficult those boots will be!

Also, did you hear they're going to mass produce this? What a bummer!

They're just bootslip covers that go over a pair of heels : ] Yeah, I saw the Ame Comi mass produced costumes, not too long after making my Catwoman cosplay. I had a couple people even asking me, if I had purchased mine from that line at a convention I attended :x

Ugh, that would be SO annoying to hear after putting all that hard work into it. I don't want to let it influence my decision, but I can't imagine how annoying it'd be to slave over it and then have tons of people show up in the purchased version. :(

Ack! Late reply is so late o_o Sorry, about that. Thank you, for sharing with me. I love how the fabric on my cosplay translates into photos. The lighting creates a very nice sheen. Haha, this pose was kind of awkward for me and I was stuck like that for a couple minutes XD; I need to fix up Catwoman and wear her again sometime : D

Personally i don't like the pose much. It looks not cat-ish to me and it would not remind me of a cat in any way. The costume tho is simply amazing. My top favorite part of it are the gloves, but just everything about that cosplay looks great. Your a very beautiful and talented girl for doing such an awesome piece of clothing.

Seeing you put a little more effort into the pose and facial expression would sure make a really good picture, because in this I think your expression and pose really does not suite Catwoman at all. Keep up the good work.

I appreciate your honesty. Personally, I would not have picked Catwoman for myself to begin with. I have always seen myself cosplaying Ivy instead because the coloring on her costume and her red hair would be more flattering against my skin; however, my friend stated her intent of wishing to make her costume. Cest la vie~

Unfortunately, as a model my experience has been limited to working with photo students, who had particular preferences for looks in their photos, which now affects photos of my cosplay work and I hope to eventually have that corrected. I have a horrible habit of pursing my lips as a reflex during photoshoots because I've become so accustomed to doing it for photographers. Hopefully, I'll do better next time? This is only my forth or fifth cosplay, so there's always room for improvement. As for the pose, I guess that's a matter of personal preference and how one thinks of a cat or Catwoman. I always think of Catwoman's dramatic silhouettes in artwork or her long limbs.

Oh i would love to see you in an Ivy Cosplay, sadly i did not have time to browse your gallery to see if you already have one. I will for sure watch you tho to see your improvement.

I know of the facial expression thing, we all have little things we do, without noticing when we take pictures. When there is someone else taking the picture it is even harder to opress those little habits, such as pressing your lips together or looking straight into the camera all the time, widening your eyes or always nibbling on your lower lip. It is a long and hard way untill a model is able to completely delete all her bad habits when taking pictures, nothing bad with the good habits.

I know you will find the way and improve more and more. You'll be able to fit the roles better for sure. I might tell you that in cosplay, I mostly always get the feeling that there is a normal girl wearing some spezial clothes, because the expression and the pose don't fit naturally to the clothes. Your probably not running around town with a catsuit all day and fight criminals, so how would you know how catwoman would make a facial expression or pose. For me there always is a lack of realism to the characters role in cosplay pictures, hardly see any pictures where i think that it really is a good facial expression. For example when there is a cosplay with armor and a sword, good crafted cosplay, nice scene and all, BUT the girl looks and poses like she is the girl next door that is on her way to a halloween party. Smiling all nicely just as if there was no huge blade in her hand. (Well i will stop writing now...)

Aww, thank you! For the gloves I followed a glove pattern and added on to it as needed for this particular design. I left openings in the fingertips for the claws, which I folded inwards, so the edges would look neat. Then I put a a little bit of hot glue in and dropped my claws into their designated finger slot. I hope that made sense x_x;

I've heard vinyl is super evil to sew, but I would like to eventually make a couple cosplays out of it x_x; I heard using wax paper makes it a little easier to sew, though.

As for where to get metallic spandex. You can get it from Spandex House or Spandex World online, but they have a twenty dollar minimum that doesn't include shipping. There are some sellers on ebay that sell metallic spandex, as well. I got mine from this seller [link]
